What is the Point of Pinterest

What is Pinterest? Article

Being a computer teacher I like to try and follow all the new things that coming out especially for the social networks on the Internet. I do this because I want to be able to inform my students of what is safe and what may be unsafe for them to be doing on the Internet. When I first noticed Pinterest appearing on facebook I had no idea what it was. being curious I went to it's site looked around and even joined myself. I still had no idea what it was really about. After reading this article, I discovered I was really confused about what I thought it could be. It appears based on what I read that Pinterest is mostly for inspiration for peoples careers and hobbies, followed closely by being used just for images. After using it myself I felt it was more like Twitter where you found things to follow. I am planning on doing some research on what Pinterest is because to be honest I am still confused and though this article explained it well, the article contradicted what I saw when trying to use Pinterest.

  1. I was a little unsure about what Pinterest was all about at first too. After playing around with it multiple times, I have discovered it to be a great resource for many aspects of my life - including teaching! Not only have I "pinned" some great recipes and decorating ideas for home, but some really great resources for school too. It's neat to see all the great ideas other teachers have. I have found some math center ideas, poetry projects, and crafts in which I have implemented in my own classroom - all from pinterest. I definitely suggest using and exploring it! :)

  2. It's funny--I saw a snippet on TV about Pinterest just a few weeks ago. I had never heard of it before and it caught my interest. I am not a blog-social network-tweet person (I don't even use Facebook), but I really thought this site was interesting and fun-, though I wasn't exactly sure why. Nonetheless I signed up for an account. The article you provided a link to made me realize why I like Pinterest--I am a visual learner and I like to organize things visually. Still haven't had the time to get started on my Pinterest Page (I am afraid I will become too engrossed in the activity and neglect other things). Thanks for the post and article :) --Nadia Kahla

  4. I thought that the article was interesting, I have never used pinterest but always see people posting about it. I think this is one social fad I will stay away from.

  5. I use pinterest all the time and I would totally agree that it seems a lot like twitter but more with inspiration and less with people communicating personal stuff. I really enjoy it though and find that I really use it for a lot of things and projects I do!
